The problem I'm facing is this: I download an attachment word or excel file from an email in Outlook and it saves to my Downloads folder. Locally on my computer it will open just fine Downloads folder, desktop, etc.
Once I move the file to our work server which is where all of our files are stored and organized , the file will refuse to open. Office will open, but the file itself will not, prompting me with the popup "Sorry, we couldn't open filepath.
It's as if it becomes tainted somehow by touching the server. Worth noting:. Any solutions you have would be greatly appreciated! A detail that I neglected to notice originally was that the files I was having trouble with were.
I noticed if I change the file type inside Word to. I'm surprised last week's 2-hour long Windows 10 update didn't address the issue, but hopefully this helps others in the meantime. I'd like to update everyone again, I've run into this snag even with a. This is extremely frustrating. Hope those above points help identify something that helps inspire a solution to this. The general problem isn't rocket science: I can't copy paste a file from my computer to our work server that I downloaded from an email.
There has to be a solution to this. Method A. Recover from the Recycle Bin. Launch the Recycle Bin. When you find your target document, right-click on it, and click Restore to get it back. Method B. Recover from searching the original document.
Then type the file name and click "Search". Method C. Recover from the backup location. Click the File menu, click Open, click Computer, and then click Browse. The backup file usually has the name "Backup of" followed by the name of the missing file. Sorry this didn't help. Thanks for your feedback. Thanks for posting the question on our forum, I am sorry about the inconvenience for you, I will try my best to help you.
I suggest you open Word in safe mode and check if you can open files normally: Open Office apps in safe mode on a Windows PC. Repair an Office application. If the issue still exists, could you please provide the following information for further analysis? When I open in safe mode, I have the same problem. Older files open fine. More recent Word files will not open.
The Word shell opens but the document doesn't appear. Screen shot attached. Next, I tried the Repair an Office application option. Office was uninstalled then reinstalled. The problem is the same. The screen looks the same as the attached screen shot - shell opens but document does not appear. I do not have this problem with those computers.
It's just this one. For example: Using a different computer 2 , in the One Drive directory, I copied some Word files to a new folder. I can open those files on computer2. When I go to this computer 1 , even though I see those same files synced to my directory on computer1, they won't open. If I do the same thing on computer1 copying some files in the One Drive directory to a new folder , those new files quickly sync to computer2.
However, I can't open them on computer2. To me, it seems that the problem is definitely on computer1. To clarify, the Word files I am having trouble with are stored on my computer. The directory shows the solid green circle with the check mark. I have attached a screen grab of the directory, along with a screen grab that show's my version number.
